Abbey Park
Open accessfree to visit at any reasonable time
Abbey Park opened in 1882 on the site of the medieval St Mary’s Abbey, whose ruins — along with the shell of the Tudor Cavendish House — still stand near the River Soar at the park’s edge. It’s Leicester’s big formal park: a lake, sensory garden, lavender maze and a seasonal miniature railway, plus tennis courts and a bowling green for anyone wanting more than a stroll. Free to enter and open every day, with the ruins of Leicester abbey itself just a few minutes further north.
