St Mary's Church, Staindrop
St Mary’s at Staindrop is a large church of Saxon origin, best known for the alabaster tombs of the Nevilles — the medieval lords of nearby Raby Castle, who made it a collegiate church. There’s a fine old screen and carved stalls inside as well. Staindrop itself is a handsome Teesdale village strung along its greens; the church is free to visit, and you’ll need a car to reach it.
