The reason to stop at Eardisley is its font. Carved around the 1150s by the same Herefordshire School that made Kilpeck, the bowl shows the Harrowing of Hell, with Christ hauling a soul clear of a lion, and beside it two men locked in combat, thought to record a real feud between local lords Drogo of Clifford and Ralph de Baskerville. It counts among the finest Romanesque fonts in the country. The church is open and free. Leominster station is about 21km to the north-east.
