Kilpeck
Local highlightNorman church with astonishing Romanesque carvings.
Kilpeck’s church is world-famous for its carving. Built of red sandstone around 1140, St Mary and St David keeps a spectacular Norman south doorway and a corbel table of some eighty-odd stone heads and beasts running round the eaves — among them the best-known sheela-na-gig in England. The church is open and free; the village around it is tiny. Hereford station is about 12km to the north-east.
