Grosmont climbs a hillside below its ruined castle, one of the Three Castles of Gwent that held this border country alongside Skenfrith and White Castle. The castle is free to walk into, and the village still lights its lanes with old-fashioned lantern lamps. The church of St Nicholas stands large among the houses.
