Skenfrith gathers by the River Monnow around its castle, a low 13th-century ring of walls and round keep now in the care of the National Trust and free to walk into. It was one of the Three Castles of Gwent, with Grosmont and White Castle. The church nearby has a squat wooden belfry, and there’s a restored mill still turning its water wheel.
