A plant-lover’s garden of about six acres on the banks of the River Dore, down in the Golden Valley beside the old Cistercian abbey at Abbey Dore. Charis Ward made it over many years, with nine borders in the walled garden, long colour-graded plantings running down to the river, and a wilder meadow of unusual trees across the bridge. There’s a small perennial nursery and a tearoom. Open on selected days spring to autumn, with an admission charge.
