The font in Eardisley’s church is one of the finest pieces of Romanesque carving in England — a spirited Harrowing of Hell cut around 1150 by the Herefordshire School of sculptors. That font is the reason to stop; the village itself is a long street of timbered houses on the black-and-white trail, out near the Welsh border.
