Brobury House Gardens step down in Victorian terraces to the River Wye beside Bredwardine Bridge, eight acres laid out from the 1880s when the house was built. Formal water features and a parterre sit among mature trees, including a stand of paper-barked birches, with a water meadow along the river below. The ground was once the vegetable garden of the vicarage where the diarist Francis Kilvert spent his last years. There’s a café, and the gardens open year-round with an admission charge.
