Hergest Croft spreads over 70 acres of hillside above Kington, planted by five generations of the Banks family across more than a century. It holds the national collections of maples and birches — over 5,000 trees and shrubs in all — and in Park Wood, a valley hidden in old oak woodland, giant rhododendrons run almost Himalayan. Open to visitors since the 1920s, the gardens run seasonally from spring to autumn, with an admission charge.
