St Augustine's, Brookland
Local highlightSt Augustine’s stands in the Romney Marsh village of Brookland, best known for its detached wooden bell tower shaped like a candle-snuffer, built in the 13th century and clad in shingles. Inside is a Norman lead font of about 1150, cast with the labours of the months and the signs of the zodiac — reckoned the finest of England’s few lead fonts. Usually open daily. Appledore station is about 4km north.
