St Thomas Becket at Fairfield stands entirely alone in the Romney Marsh, ringed by grazing fields and once reached only by boat when the marsh flooded. The whitewashed brick church keeps its Georgian box pews and a triple-decker pulpit. It’s reached on foot across the fields, and the key is held locally. Appledore station is about 3km to the north.
