Monknash was a monastic grange, once the richest estate of the Cistercian abbey at Neath, with a tithe barn said to have run over 200 feet. Little of it survives, but the Plough and Harrow inn dates back to the 14th century and still trades behind the cliffs at Cwm Nash, a short walk from a quiet stretch of the Heritage Coast.
