The village church at Merthyr Mawr, rebuilt in the 19th century among thatched cottages on the edge of the dunes. Fragments of much older carved stones survive inside, and the sandy wilderness of Merthyr Mawr Warren with its ruined castle lies just beyond the churchyard. Open to visitors; Bridgend is the nearest station, about 3km north-east.
