The landmark at Long Sutton is the timber spire of St Mary’s, raised around 1200 and sheathed in lead. It’s reckoned among the oldest lead-covered timber spires in England, climbing well over 150 feet above this South Holland fen town. The church is open to visitors and sits just off the market place.
