Levisham is a single street of cottages ending at the green and the Horseshoe Inn, high above a wooded gorge. It’s a walkers’ village: paths drop to Levisham Beck and climb to the Hole of Horcum, the huge natural hollow scooped from the moor nearby. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway stops at Levisham station, though that’s a stiff walk down in the valley. Goathland is further up the same line.
