Thornton-le-Dale has been called Yorkshire’s prettiest village since it won a newspaper poll back in 1907, and the thatched Beck Isle Cottage on the stream is one of the most photographed buildings in the county — a regular on calendars and chocolate boxes. There’s an old market cross and stocks on the green, and a beck threading between the houses. Malton is the nearest station, about 12km south-west.
