A long High Street of independent shops runs through Cowbridge, a Georgian market town laid out on the Roman road between Neath and Cardiff. At its southern end stands the South Gate, or Porth y Felin, the only medieval town gate left in Glamorgan and part of walls built by about 1300. Llanblethian and its castle lie just below the town.
