Castle Cary is a small market town built in honey-coloured stone, with an arched market house at its heart and a round 18th-century lock-up — a tiny domed jail once used for drunks — on the corner. Rolling country surrounds it. The station, about 1.5km north, is a useful mainline stop between London and the West Country.
