A long single street of stone houses on the shelf above Wensleydale, Carperby has a stepped market cross on its green from the days it held a chartered market. It’s a quiet, working village, well placed for Aysgarth falls just to the south. James Herriot spent his honeymoon at the Wheatsheaf inn here. Castle Bolton lies a little way east.
