Below the village of Aysgarth the River Ure drops over three separate sets of stepped falls — Upper, Middle and Lower Force — spread through wooded gorge over about half a mile. The Lower Force featured in the quarterstaff fight in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. There’s a car park and visitor centre between the falls. West Burton and Carperby are quiet neighbours a short way off.
