Broad Chalke lies along a clear chalk stream in the Chalke Valley, deep in the Cranborne Chase downs south-west of Salisbury. Watercress was grown here in beds fed by the river, and there’s a small nature reserve on the water. The photographer Cecil Beaton lived at Reddish House from 1947 until his death in 1980, and is buried in the churchyard. Tisbury station is about 10km west.
