Substantial ruinsruined, but plenty survives above ground
The registered park covers the grounds of both Wardour castles: the ruined Old Wardour Castle, with its landscaped lake, limestone grotto and Gothic banqueting house, cared for by English Heritage and open on a paid ticket. Nearby, New Wardour Castle — the grand Palladian mansion built to replace it in the 1770s — later became a school and is now private apartments, not open to visitors. Much of the wider park is farmland, though the Wessex Ridgeway runs along its edge for walkers.
