Tisbury is the main village of the Nadder Valley, in the Cranborne Chase downs, with independent shops and walks out into the hills. Just south at Place Farm stands a 15th-century tithe barn, once the grange of Shaftesbury Abbey, with one of the largest thatched roofs in England at close to 200 feet long. The Compasses Inn is a thatched 14th-century pub nearby. Tisbury station is a short walk from the centre.
