Lola Taplin ran the Fleece Inn at Bretforton until her death in 1977, when she left the medieval longhouse to the National Trust — the first pub the Trust ever owned, and still unspoilt inside, all flagstones, pewter and low beams. The village around it is built largely of stone, unusual for the Vale of Evesham, and gathers round a church and a run of old farmhouses.
