Known as the ‘Osprey Village’ after the famous breeding birds at nearby Loch Garten, Boat of Garten is a tidy Spey-side village with a station on the restored Strathspey steam railway. The name recalls the ferry boat that crossed the river here before the bridge came. It makes an easy base for the RSPB reserve and the Abernethy pinewoods, a short hop from Aviemore and Carrbridge.
