Aberystwyth strings a long Victorian promenade along Cardigan Bay, closed at one end by the fragments of Edward I’s 1277 castle and at the other by the cliff railway, opened in 1896, that climbs Constitution Hill. It’s the county town of Ceredigion and a university seat, with the National Library of Wales up the hill and the narrow-gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway running inland from beside the main station.
