The Vale of Rheidol Railway is a narrow-gauge steam line that opened in 1902 and climbs nearly 12 miles from Aberystwyth up the wooded Rheidol valley to Devil’s Bridge. It was built to serve the lead mines and now runs for the scenery. Trains leave from a platform beside the main Aberystwyth station, and a return trip takes most of a morning or afternoon.
