A chain of wooded islands sits in the River Ness just upstream of central Inverness, linked to both banks by slender suspension footbridges dating from the 1850s. It makes a lovely short circular walk under mature trees, only a few minutes from the city centre and about the same again from the station — an easy way to swap pavements for river and leaf without leaving town.
