A prancing white horse on Hindover Hill above the Cuckmere, cut in a single night in 1924.
This horse was cut in a single night in 1924, replacing an earlier figure of 1836 on the same slope that had faded from view. It prances on Hindover Hill, high above the winding River Cuckmere. There’s a free car park on the Alfriston Road at the top of High and Over, but the horse reads best from across the valley, on the path between Litlington and the river. The Long Man of Wilmington stands on the next hill east, within the South Downs.
