Just north of Alfriston, Drusillas is a small zoo built around younger children — meerkats, monkeys, penguins and lemurs at close quarters rather than big game, plus a narrow-gauge railway (a little train running on narrow tracks), play areas and the usual family-day trimmings. It’s been a day out here for a century, growing from a roadside tea garden into the zoo you see now. Entry is ticketed. The South Downs Way and the village of Alfriston are both close if you want to stretch the visit into a walk, and the Long Man of Wilmington chalk figure is a short drive east.
