From this low headland south of Penarth, Guglielmo Marconi sent the first wireless message across open sea in May 1897 — the signal “Are you ready?” crossing roughly three miles of the Bristol Channel from Flat Holm island. A plaque by St Lawrence’s church marks the spot. The point itself is a quiet stretch of the Wales Coast Path, with rock-pool ledges below and views to the Somerset shore. Penarth station is about three kilometres north.
