Approximate location — this spot is pinned to the nearest village, so the exact point may be a little way off.

Footdee — ‘Fittie’ to locals — is a planned fishing village at the mouth of Aberdeen harbour, laid out by the architect John Smith in 1808–9. His 28 cottages face inward around two squares, and the little houses with their painted sheds are now a much-photographed, well-kept conservation corner. It’s a short walk out along the harbour from the beach. Free to wander.
