Duthie Park opened in 1883 on the north bank of the Dee, and its big draw is the David Welch Winter Gardens — glasshouses first built in 1899 and rebuilt in 1970, holding Britain’s second-largest collections of giant cacti and bromeliads. A warm, free escape on a cold Aberdeen day, with the rest of the park’s ponds and lawns outside. Aberdeen station is a short way to the north.
