Known as the Mither Kirk — the mother church of Aberdeen — the Kirk of St Nicholas has stood in the city centre since the 12th century, though much was rebuilt after a fire in 1874. Look for Drum’s Aisle, the old burial place of the Irvines of Drum, and listen for the carillon of 48 bells, one of the largest in the British Isles. Open and free, just off Union Street. Aberdeen station is under half a kilometre away.
