Capability Brown laid out Ampthill Park in the 1770s, and its avenues of old oaks still crown the Greensand Ridge with long views over the Marston vale. Katherine’s Cross marks the site of a vanished castle where Catherine of Aragon was confined during Henry VIII’s annulment. It’s open access with a car park, and Houghton House stands just across the valley. Millbrook station is about 2.5km to the north-west.
