Sherborne Castle Gardens
Open to visitorscheck opening times and admission before you go
Sir Walter Raleigh built the house here in the 1590s, after giving up on the ruined old castle across the valley. The setting came later: in the 1750s Capability Brown dammed the river to make the fifty-acre lake and laid out the parkland that still frames the house. It’s a landscape to walk, with lakeside paths and long views back to the castle. Paid entry, seasonal; Sherborne station is under 2km west.
