Paycocke's House and Garden
Open to visitorsa National Trust place — check opening times and admission before you go
Paycocke’s is a half-timbered merchant’s house on West Street in Coggeshall, built around 1500 for the wealthy cloth trader Thomas Paycocke and famous for its intricately carved timberwork. Rescued from near-demolition in the early 20th century by Lord Noel Buxton, it passed to the National Trust; behind it, a former industrial yard was replanted from 2008 as an Arts and Crafts garden of plants grown across the house’s five centuries. Open on advertised days with an admission charge (free to Trust members).
