Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester, brought the Palladian style home from his Grand Tour and built Holkham to match, to designs by William Kent — a yellow-brick house finished in 1764, after his death. It stands in a 3,000-acre deer park by the coast, with a walled garden and a lake. Paid entry to the hall; the surrounding park and beach are open freely.
