High Tor is a sheer limestone cliff towering over Matlock Bath, laid out as a Victorian pleasure ground and now looked after by Derbyshire Dales District Council. Wooded paths climb to a war memorial on the summit, and the exposed footpath along the top — known locally as Giddy Edge — gives proper vertigo-inducing views over the Derwent gorge, so it’s not one for small children. Free to enter, open in daylight hours, it links straight into Matlock Parks. Matlock Bath station is about 0.7km away.
