Cottesbrooke Hall is a near-perfect Queen Anne house of 1702, though its gardens are almost entirely 20th-century work — a formal parterre laid out by Geoffrey Jellicoe in 1937, terrace walks and mixed borders under old Lebanon cedars. The house is sometimes named as the model for Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park, a claim several other houses also make. Hall tours run in the afternoons, and the gardens open from early May to late September.
