West of Northampton, Harlestone Firs is a block of pine and mixed woodland on the edge of the Althorp estate, threaded with easy tracks for walking and mountain biking. It’s open and free. Althorp itself, the Spencer family seat and burial place of Diana, Princess of Wales, lies just north near Great Brington. Northampton station is about 4km south-east.
