The Spencer family have been buried in St Mary’s at Great Brington for nineteen generations, their chapel crowded with alabaster tombs beside the Althorp estate. In the chancel a worn slab marks Lawrence Washington, who died in 1616 and was a direct forebear of George Washington. The thatched estate cottages line up along the lane below the park. Long Buckby station is about 4km to the north-west.
