Busbridge Lakes is a Grade II* garden of lakes and old trees near Godalming, threaded with follies and a grotto the Webb family built in the 18th century. It’s now home to one of the country’s largest private collections of ornamental waterfowl, after the Douetil family — who’ve owned the estate since 1966 — started with a single pair of ducks in 1967; cranes and rare pheasants wander the banks today. The grounds open only on selected days through the year, so check the website before setting out. Munstead Wood is a short walk north-east.
