A hillside collection of rare trees and shrubs, Winkworth Arboretum runs down to two lakes and was planted from the 1930s by Dr Wilfrid Fox, now in the care of the National Trust. It’s at its best for autumn colour and spring bluebells, so those are the times to aim for. Open most of the year, paid entry (members free). Milford station is about 4km west.
