Compton lies on the old road between Guildford and Farnham, best known for the Watts Gallery, a museum devoted to the Victorian painter G.F. Watts. Nearby stand his red-brick Cemetery Chapel, covered inside and out with Arts and Crafts decoration, and St Nicholas’ Church with its rare two-storey Norman sanctuary. Farncombe station is about 3km south-east.
