Farnham is a handsome Georgian market town on the River Wey, its wide Castle Street lined with red-brick and hung-tile houses climbing to a Norman castle. The keep and the later Bishop’s Palace crown the hill above the town. The ruins of Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian house in England, lie a few miles south-east. Farnham station is on the London Waterloo line.
