Rebuilt in 1580 and given its own consecrated graveyard, St Mary the Virgin finally spared the people of upper Swaledale the long haul of carrying their dead down the Corpse Way to Grinton. It stands in the middle of Muker, ringed by the flower-rich hay meadows that make the village so lovely in early summer. A gorgeous starting point for walks up the dale. Open daily; the Farmers Arms is a few doors along for afterwards.
