Wain Wath Force is a wide, low fall on the River Swale near Keld, with the limestone crag of Cotterby Scar rising behind it — an easy-going spot rather than a dramatic plunge. A short walk from the road above Keld drops you to a grassy bank by the pool, which makes it a favourite place for a summer paddle. It sits close to where the Coast to Coast and Pennine Way routes meet. Kirkby Stephen station is about 13km away to the north-west.
