Come to Muker in June and the hay meadows around it are a blaze of wildflowers — internationally important, walled and cut the old way, threaded by flagged paths you can wander. The village itself is a tight knot of stone houses in upper Swaledale, with a church, a tearoom and the Farmers Arms. Thwaite is a mile up the dale toward Keld.
